Although the bike is rather heavy for my son to pick up when he falls over, he loves it and has improved his balance after riding it only a few times. It would be helpful if the seat could be a little lower, but otherwise, he was definitely ready to move to this bicycle from a tricycle. We have not used the pedals or brake yet.

I feel the idea behind this bike; teaching your child to learn balance instead of the usual training wheel method is fantastic. We wanted to try a glide bike and not a bike with training wheels, but we didn't want to buy 2 different bikes (a glider AND a real bike) and this seemed perfect. We bought this bike last Christmas for our son who was 2 years, 9 months old at that time. It came all together out of the box (as far as I can remember) with the only assembly being the handlebars. He LOVED it and was soon gliding all over the place. The bike was the perfect size for him and he took right to the gliding. We have done since then a few height modifications to the bike and these were very easy to do. Fast forward to 4th of July weekend and we finally gave into the numerous requests to "put the pedals on, Dad!" He had been after me to put the pedals on for months, but I wasn't sure if he was ready yet. They went on in less than 5 minutes total with the enclosed Allen wrench (all you need is a small screwdriver). So, with the pedals on we took a shaky ride around the block with me holding his back lightly for support. On the return ride he was pedaling all by himself, wobbly, but still by himself. We rode for about a half hour more. The next day he picked it up and was considerably better. And now he is riding like he has been doing it for years. We were blown away how easy it was for him (and us!!) to learn to ride a bike. I would buy this bike again without a doubt again, and am planning on it for another child. It absolutely does what it promised.

My son got this for his 4th birthday, and with only occasional practice, is now riding on his own just two months later! This is a fantastic bike for 2 yrs and up or even younger if they're taller than normal. We "made"a balance bike by removing training wheels and cutting off permanent pedals (that were located off of the front when - totally wrong place balance-wise when you are learning to ride a real bike anyway)off a $20 bike from Target over 6 months ago. it worked great for our then 18 month old. At first he was clumsy with it, but after a couple of days, he had the hang of using his feet to balance AND motor himself around. We looked forever for a tiny size bike (most kids are not riding a real bike by 2, right) forever and could only find one this small that had pedals that was European, it was very expensive, much less shipping it here. Anyway, this bike is perfect for our 26 month old son, he will likely be pedaling with the pedals within 2 months. Although he is extremely athletic, our daughter who is normal in her athleticism, was riding her bike right before 3 yrs old, but it's only b/c we had just learned about balance style bikes and came up with a homemade one for her as well. We love it!

I bought this bike for my son and nephew (both 3.5) for Christmas when I couldn't get the Kettler one. This bike is so much better. I have several friends with the Kettler and it is a great bike, but this bike is incredibly sturdy, aesthetically pleasing and it comes with petals that can be added. My husband and brother-in-law got the bikes together in minutes. The kids love them and they seem so much more substantial that typical bikes with training wheels - our neighbor has a toddler bike from target with training wheels. Our son is not the most coordinated and the bike does not intimidate him and he can go at his own pace. The tires are really wide and make it very stable. My nephew is extremely agile and is whizzing around already - I am sure he will be wanting the petals on before long. This bike will last - I know I will get use out of it for my daughter as well. Excellent bike, high quality.

We bought this bike to my youngest son on his 2-year birthday. It was too big for him though. But his brother of four loved it! He had a bike with training wheels which he had used for about three months. The first he did with the balance bike was riding it downhill, immediately understanding how to keep the balance. We were amazed. The day after he could ride his regular bike without training wheels, but because he still has trouble starting and stopping on that one he likes the balance bike more and uses it every day. My guess is he'll use it for another 6 months when I think his younger brother finally might be able to use it.

On the downside, it is a bit too plastic - I don't expect it'll last more than a year or so. It is a bit hard to reach the air ventiles with a pump, actually some of the plastic spoke broke while forcing the pump there.

We really like this bike. My son has been riding a wooden one for about 7 months, and it is starting to fall apart. We bought him this one, and it a bit taller, and will definately last longer! My only complaint is there is some metal screws that hang out on the back tire frame part. It has been hard for my son because he keeps scraping his ankles on them when he really gets going (he is really fast!) We are going to file them down a bit, and put some kind of tape or something over them. The sturdiness of the bike far surpasses the wooden balance bike...and the color is awesome!

My daughter loves it! She is 5 years old but not small at all even though recommended age is up to 4 years old. I wish I could get it earlier though. It is very well made and very economical compare to other brands, and low shipping fee too! A. This is not a Draisienne. Any child over 2 1/2 will be able to propel themselves and be "riding" and balancing.

B. The quality is very high. My preschooler has ridden his in all conditions and nothing has ever come loose or chipped.

C. It's all-wood construction is gorgeous. Everyone will comment.

D. Make sure you install the rubber handlebar grips. They are hard to get on. Coat the handlebars with dish soap to slide them on.

This is a great bike. I gave one to my 2 and4 year old to share for Christmas. It is winter here so they ride it through the house all the time. My son has really struggled with 2 wheel bikes because the typical bike easily crashes when you turn the handle bars too hard. This bike is made so the turning radius is very small. The bike is light enough that he just picks it up a little to make a big turn. No problem. He goes sailing through the house now with NO crashing. Once the weather is good enough to go outside he is going to have a ball. He will definately graduate to a standard bike after this teaches him balance. He should be able to skip the obnoxious training wheels altogether.

My short 2 year old loves it but she has to go slowly because she can barely reach the floor. In a few months she should be fine and I'm guessing by this summer she'll be sailing on it. GREAT FUN. Unfortunately the price is very hard to swallow. I found one on sale through a design website so I could manage it. If the money won't bankrupt your budget or you can save for it, it's worth it!

We were very impressed with how well made they are. And I love that they are made of wood and they have real air tires. When I compared them to the other balance bikes in the store, this one really stood out. None of the others seemed as well made and this is the only one that looked like a little motorcycle. I was very hesitant about getting this bike because of the cost... and it took a bit of convincing for my wife to come around, but the results speak for themselves.

I justified the expense in two ways:

1. We have two boys, we only need one of these bikes as it will pass from one to the next as elder learns to ride a peddle bike.

2. I heard that the resale of these is pretty darn good.

Just to paint a brief picture of our first born, he is cautious beyond cautious for a 3 year old. He took a long time to walk because he measured everything he did very carefully. Only when he became absolutely sure that he wasn't going to fall did he took his first steps. And this is how he has handled everything in his short life.

For this past Christmas we wanted to get him a bike and after doing some research decided on this one. He had just turned three a few months before. When he first got on the bike it was just walking. This took him about a couple of weeks to get past. Then jogging, then running, then lifting his legs. Each step getting shorter and shorter. Now he is flying down hills, falling off at times, picking himself back up and getting back on.

Six months later this bike not only has given him the ability to ride a bike, but it also gave him the spirit of trying things even if he might fail. This was a huge personal growth step for him, and has carried into many other things in his life. Before where he would just watch the other children play in the play ground, now he is mixing it up with the best of them.

I am sure there are other factors for his turnaround, but it wasn't until I saw him fall off his bike for the first time and get back on that I knew this bike was worth its weight in gold for our son.

And we still have another one to go!

I bought this wooden bike for a preschooler. In less than a year of use I have had to replace the bolts on the steering/front wheel assembly three times. We used a similar wooden running bike made in Germany to teach a whole neighborhood of children (more than 6 preschoolers in a single month) to ride a two wheeler and never had to repair a single piece. This bike has needed a special air pump because the intake gauge is so close to the spokes. Our other pump would not fit. We bought a box of the hex-metric bolts at Home Depot and needed everyone of them to replace ones that have been loss in use. The blue knob on the handle broke off after repeated dropping on the sidewalk, when our little guy jumped off the bike to chase another thought. The seat is difficult to move up and down, requiring two hex drivers and disassembly of two bolts. This makes it difficult to share with different height children. I would pay more for a lower maintenance running bike with an easy seat adjustment, if I had it to do all over again.

I bought this bike for my 2-year-old (almost three) and by the second day he had learned to keep his balance.

It's a very cool little bike and we're all amazed at how well he can ride it. I chose this bike because it was less expensive than similar bikes on the market. It also has a great little foot rest so they don't have to hold their legs up in the air while they ride.

I would prefer that the bike was lighter in weight but other than that I'm very impressed with it.

I got this for my 2yo and it will have a nice layer of dust on it before he can reach the ground while sitting on the seat. And he'll probably be ready to ride a bike with pedals by then. I attempted to lower the seat as far as possible and I even took off the seat and taped a piece of thin foam on as a test to see how low I could get it. No luck.

Beyond that, the fit and finish are probably appropriate to the (low) price but are sub par in general. The rear caliper won't center properly and rubs the rim after each brake application. The seat and handlebar clamps don't get tight enough to hold their positions.

It was an impulse buy that I should have researched more fully.

First let me say that my kids both already had bikes with training wheels. Neither were looking forward to Dad removing their training wheels - the prospects of falling down were too much for them. So, when seeing this "bike" on sale I thought we'd give it a try. It came somewhat unassembled, but was quick and easy to get it complete - in fact I did so on the kitchen counter in about five minutes time. Then came the test, would they try it. I gave the Dad talk - how this was a new bike, a special bike, that you ran with you feet, that you pull your feet up and just like magic it will allow you to roll on the pavement. Low and behold they took to it. After three or four times up and down the driveway my eldest came and said, "Dad, can you take the training wheels off my bike." Success. Literally went from a training wheel bike to riding two wheels without a single crash. I was absolutely floored. And so what if the bike got less than an hour of use in our household. It served the purpose and was off to the next family friend for their learning bikers. Assessment: Quick and easy to assemble; quick and easy to move away from having to have training wheel. Perfect.

"I'm Sure It Works Great But....." 2009-03-25

We ordered this bike for our #3 child. After using all sorts of methods besides training wheels for our older two (and having mixed results), we wanted to try something a little different. It came in the mail today. The three year old for whom it is intended was very excited. Putting it together was mostly easy BUT when it came time to pump up the tires I found that NONE of our bike pumps would fit into the excruciatingly small hole that this bike has. We ended up having to go and purchase a new tire pump just to fit this bike! Then, we had to squeeze the tire to get the valve stem to poke out enough to get the pump to latch on. It took two grown adults (one of whom is an engineer) to figure the thing out.

After all this hassle, I sure hope that it helps my kiddo learn to ride. We're not starting out very well with it, that's for sure.

This is a cute little bike. We have friends who bought it for their kids and love it. We bought if for our two year old for Christmas and he is barely tall enough, but will be by summer. It was easy to assemble and is sturdy and well made....Except for the tires. The tires do not inflate with a standard bike nozzle, you will have to purchase a special one at a bike shop. That wasn't a big deal and the front one inflated with no problem. The rear tire did not work, so we went back to the bike shop and bought a new inner tube for it (which comes with a standard nozzle). This was a five dollar purchase, but although my husband had replaced inner tubes before, it was very labor intensive to get the tire on and off and we almost took it to the bike shop to have them do it. Now it is a great bike. I think for the price it was worth the hassle, but since the other reviews had the same problem, it may be a typical one instead of a rare case.

I agree with the previous review that the valve is not standard. My husband took the bike to sports authority and got a slime brand air pump value adapter for $[...]. It worked but not easy because the valve was already very tall and with the adapter, it was pretty hard to screw the air pump value onto it. As for the air leaking, I have to make sure the rubber on the valve insert and the top round thing is tight. Once I start pumping and don't hear the air leaking, I know I've got that down. Only takes a minute to pull out and reinsert. But yes there is no instruction anywhere. Hope this review helps other to figure it out. The price is the cheapest I can find among similar type bikes and the construction is pretty sturdy so far but we just got it so I don't know if it'll hold up or not. I'll have to come back and repost if I have any problems.

Received the bike and assembled it. Tried to inflate the tires but could not figure out how to keep air in them. The stems are rather similar to giant prestas but I could not get them to trap air. Looked high and low on the internet to find these stems and specifically how they worked but failed. I finally gave up and purchased new tubes with schrader stems. Other than the extra eight bucks I had to spend for tubes the bike worked great and was loved by my grand daughter.

I had high expectations for this product - I have Multiple Sclerosis, so balance issues are a problem for me. I missed being able to ride my bike, and hoped that this product would enable me to start riding again. Unfortunately, I was never able to adjust to the new "feel" these gave to riding a bike; mostly, they made my bike feel unnavigable. The seller of this product, Wishful thngs 4 U, did not include the installation instructions; I had to get these from the manufacturer, which caused a delay in getting the stabilizer wheels installed on my bike. When I was finally able to try out the stabilizer wheels and determine that they would not work for me, it had been over 30-days since I initially purchased them, and Wishful Things 4 U would not accept a return. A dissapointing product (for me anyway); and a poor experience with Wishful Things 4 U - I will not do business with this company again.

These wheels are awesome!! Because of this kit, Bike USA Stabilizer Wheel Kit, I can now ride a bike for the first time in 25 years!! I have balance issues and cannot ride a bike with only 2 wheels. These wheels, Bike USA Stabilizer Wheel Kit, solved my problem! They were not too difficult for my friend to put on for me.

It took some getting used to. The bike with these wheels has a bit of a different feel than just a 2 wheeler. But now I am totally used to it, and in just a few rides, it felt great!! I ride nearly every day now. People turn and look at my bike.

One of my friends, who is in a wheelchair wants to try my bike. She thinks my bike looks trendy. My mother thinks it looks cool. One woman asked me where I got the wheels because her son is disabled. I told her Bike USA makes the wheels and I bought them on Amazon.

What can I say, it's a Styrofoam hat with plastic taped to it just like any other cycle helmet. Well Ok I do have this to say.

It's easy to put on a child, the straps adjust well so it will grow with your childs head and the strap design means it will not just pop off if they do chance to come of their bike, trike, rollerskates etc. My daughter can't pull it off once it's strapped on so as these things go it's a winner. Yes I would by another Bell product.

We have four children under age six. We love to go on family bike rides and all wear helmets. This little helmet was a wonderful addition to our safety equipment collection when our 2 1/2 year old boy refused to wear a helmet for bike riding/carrier riding. Mind you, he had never known anything else until seeing some of our neighborhood older kids riding without helmets. Our rule is "no helmet, no bike". Our little lion loved this helmet and wore it without complaint. He told the other kids that it was sure too bad that they didn't have a lion helmet like his.

The helmet meets all safety requirements and is certified as such. There is also a handy sticker included for writing your name and address inside the helmet. The bonus for this helmet is its charming lion with a "real" mane. There is fake fur for the lion's mane on both sides of the helmet. Adorable!

As a dad I bought this little bike hoping it would help my four year old and maybe even my 7 year old learn to bike without their training wheels and without the trauma of crashing. My seven year old already had the balance, but lacked the confidence. This Strider fit the bill perfectly! My seven year old barely fit on the Strider, but still had a blast running then sitting and gliding on the bike. She did it indoors a few times, then for about thirty minutes with it outside. It was fun to watch her quickly learn to balance and glide further and further each try. Literally within thirty minutes and even trading off with her brother, she had figured out how to balance and glide down our short driveway and out into the street. While she was playing I took her training wheels off of her other bike. She hopped on it, and with a bit of a push she was riding! She giggled as she rode and said "this is just like the Strider!" Too easy! My four year old is progressing quickly too. On our second day out with the strider we went to a large parking lot with little traffic. While my seven year old had a blast tooling around the lot without her training wheels, my four old made longer and longer glides on the Strider. After an hour he could glide over twenty feet on a gently downward sloped part of the lot. It won't be long until he is ready to try his bike. Good thing too because he's almost too big for the Strider already. What a great teaching tool! The Strider seems well constructed for what it is. It is light and easy to assemble. It has tread spots on the back fork where the kids can put up their feet. It is low to the ground. My four year old is 42 inches tall and is really too tall for it already, but he manages just fine by bending his knees and stepping out to the side a bit. I paid $78 shipped and feel like it was worth it. My kids confidence level went way up when I outfitted them with knee and elbow pads and gloves to go along with their helmets. The gloves have saved their little hands from painful road rash more than once. Bell sells a package that has all the protective gear together for a reasonable price.

My kiddo (2.5) has trepidations about the bike - just going .000005 mph on it he has crashed it. But he's small, and not particularly athletic as far as I can tell so far. But, compared to the other balance bikes out there, this thing rocks because a) it doesn't weigh the same as a Hummer (although it isn't light by any stretch), and b) it has a hand brake (which my kid sure won't figure out for a bit, but eventually, should be helpful). Seems like a good geometry for a balance bike, and the seat has a nice amount of extension for a growing kid. VERY easy to put together (although you really have to crank to get the headset tight). I'm looking forward to when my son gets up the nerve to really get going on it - and hope he does that before winter sets in...

We purchased the green version of the '09 KinderBike for our tall 3 1/2 year old. She already has a Kettler Air Navigator HKS that she loves so she knows how to pedal. We were looking for a similar quality starter balance bike for her to learn how to balance. Originally had a difficult time trying to find a three wheel ride on for my son. I wanted it to be small enough for him, light weight and steer-able! We found it in the Mopi! I have to admit I thought it might be too small at first, but it turned out to be of benefit. From the moment we gave this to our son for his second birthday, it was a huge hit!! I am impressed by the product for the price point. It is nicely built, easy to put together. The brakes are of low quality. I wanted to get my daughter a balance bike that would look like other bikes and this does look like a dirt bike. It also has air tires instead of foam. She is 2 and she can barely touch the ground. I'm sure when she gets a little taller it will be awesome. For now we are just sitting on it.

I can't say enough great things about this balance bike. It was worth every single cent. I'll be honest, we used to live in Manhattan and in May 2008 we bought one for our son's 3rd birthday and he used it sporadically for that spring and summer. Once the winter months hit he didn't use it at all so I wasn't too sure if we made the right purchase. This past May he turned four and with the warm weather we brought the balance bike out, again. The reception was better but still not great. We would take it to the playground and he started using it more but still the reception was lukewarm. We moved to the suburbs where he had a lot more room and space and everything changed!!!! Once he gained his confidence and got the full hang of the balance bike he was zipping around the yard like a true champ. Now's he's only 4 yrs and 3 months old and he is able to ride a "big boy" bike without ANY training wheels!!!! Within the first hour of trying to ride his older cousin's bike he was able to ride unassisted. It's amazing. When I say it's amazing I mean it is AMAZING.

I was looking for the perfect gift for my granddaughter's 3rd birthday in October, 2008 and I found it in the Playskool Glide to Ride. I went by the Amazon add and pictures (i.e. didn't see it in person). My grandaughter used it as a glider last Fall and early Spring of this year (2009) when my son decided he'd put the pedals on it. At just 3-1/2 years of age my grandaughter now rides a two wheeler. She did have a very good sense of balance to begin with and they have a long driveway with a gate across the end. Adult supervision is absolutely imperative because they learn to ride so quickly ... but the second thing they need to learn is stopping and watching where they are going. This was the only glider/pedal combination bike I could find that was set up to work this way. I didn't want to get training wheels for my 4 year old because I find them unstable. This way she can learn to balance and then go straight to pedals. Another benefit is that she can push it around in the backyard on the grass, which she wouldn't be able to do with training wheels. She loves it and I think we will add the pedals before the end of this summer. One issue-the white plastic cover on the gears scrapes against the rear wheel, slowing it down and scratching the plastic wheel cover. I even took it to a bike store to see if they could take it apart and put it back together better than I did, but not much luck. It seems to be a design flaw of the bicycle. If I had known this I may have opted to buy a regular bike and just have a bike shop take the pedals and gears off until she had her balance. A glider can be made with any bike just by doing that. So unless they fix this design flaw I would buy a different bike instead and just turn it into a glider for a while. Probably more difficult to detach and attach, but the construction of this casing around the gears just doesn't fit correctly.

I was really impressed by the videos on youtube of the 3 year old riding this push bike ride-on toy. Initially, 50 dollars seemed like a lot for a chunk of plastic so I looked around for something like it and closest was the Winther Mini Viking Safety Scooter, but the Winther costs $100!

The great thing about the SuperMOPI is that it is just about perfect ergonomically for 1.5 year old. It's lightweight, so easy for a toddler to maneuver. The wheels are fast and the steering is incredibly intuitive and responsive, which makes it really fun. I would recommend this toy over any tricycle.

"Usable and fun, but poor quality" 2009-12-28

I am a cyclist with several high-end bikes and while I did not expect high quality from this Kinderbike, I would have liked better manufacturing and assembly. My kids will have a lot of fun with this bike, but I cannot say that it is well made.

The handlebar did not actually fit into the stem, although I was able to make it work. The seatpost was tough to get into the frame and without some grease, it would not have been easily adjustable. Actually, several parts needed grease that the instructions didn't mention. The bearings on the wheels do not seem to have been greased or adjusted properly, and they will act as automatic brakes. The handbrake was so tight that I had trouble squeezing it and there is no way that my kids could have used it. The included tools were not sufficient to completely assemble and adjust the Kinderbike.

I have a 40-year-old bike with much of the same technology that is on this Kinderbike. You would think that they could get it right. This same shoddy workmanship on an adult bike would make it unsafe. I will let my kids use it because of the adjustments and repairs that I made and because a 3 or 4 year old doesn't put the same stresses on a bike that an adult does.

This bike is a great idea, but it needs to be higher quality or half the price.

Love this bike, did a lot of research and I think we'll get more use of it than the Skuut. However, my tall 2.5 year old seems afraid to use it thus far. I think he will grow into it, but I wish my (tall) 4 year old could use this bike better. Even when we adjust the seat it's a bit too small for my 4 year old. So the seat adjustment could be a bit better. Other than that I think it will be fun once my 2 year old grows into it.

I have 2 boys, and gave the mini glider to the oldest for his 5th birthday. My youngest boy just turned 3 yrs old. I did a lot of research and finally purchased the mini glider at Amazon. Extremely fast delivery and quick and easy to assemble. I didn't want to spend $99 for a kids bike, but now I wish I had purchased it over a year ago. We tried removing pedals from old bikes, but they're all too heavy and not enough adjustment for height differences.

My 5 yr old son learned how to balance on the mini glider within an hour. Within 2 hrs, he was riding down hills with his feet on the pegs. Within a day, he had built up his confidence to move from the paved area to riding down steep hills in the back yard. The bike was so light he was able to walk it back up the hill and glide back down many times.

My 3 yr old learned how to move around and started lifting his feet within an hour. I was totally amazed at how he progressed the first day. At the end of the second day, he was riding 200 to 300 ft down hills with his feet on the pegs while going around curves. He has also learned to stand up on the pegs trying to do tricks. The bike is so light, he can pick it up and spin it around without much effort. He thinks he is doing wheelies by pulling the front tire off the ground.

Both kids love the bike and argue over who gets to ride. They have given it the nickname "zoom-zoom". They even ride it in the house on carpet and hard wood floors (make sure you clean all the rocks off that gets stuck in the tires).

My bike did not come with a kick stand as shown on one of the photos, but it is not really needed and could just get in the way.

The tires do not grip as well as typical tires, but not having to worry about inflating them compensates for this problem.

Great design overall and does an excellent job teaching balance and building confidence. Much better than training wheels !!

Pros:

1. So Lightweight it is easily controlled by an average 2 year old.

2. Hand brake is essential to me to teach that skill early.

3. Solid construction is perfect.

Cons:

1. expensive if you're buying this to teach balance in preparation for a pedal bike. Your child may learn so fast they don't use it very long! Probably has great resale value, though, as it is so well made.

2. On level ground, once balance is mastered, it is hard to get any speed to coast for very long without using your feet to push again. This is why my daughter wanted a pedal bike, because it is not designed for much speed on level ground. And obviously, it does not go uphill at all.

Our experience:

We bought this for our daughter's 3rd birthday. She was 41 inches tall barefoot. Within 15 minutes she was starting to balance by putting her feet out, just for a couple seconds. The second time we took her out, we found a very small incline that flattened out, and that's where she very quickly learned to balance and glide, even while turning. After that she enjoyed the bumpy little dirt hills and pretty steep (for biking) concrete trails, where we taught her to "drag" her feet to control speed, as well as use the hand brake to stop. It wasn't long before she was asking for a bike with pedals, so at age 3 and 3 months, we bought her a 16" bmx style bike with no training wheels. That very day, with just a couple pushes from mom, she took off pedaling, and already knew how to use the hand brake. With a little more practice and coaching on how to start off from a stationary position, she has learned to start on her own, without a push (that's the hardest part when you're learning). Now little 2 year old brother has inherited the balance bike, and is beginning to balance. He is shorter (35" now), so seat post is all the way down for his feet to be flat on the ground, and since the post sticks out the bottom with only about 1" of clearance, it will hit on a rock or some bumpy ground, but we mostly avoid obstacles like that for now, and he just loves it.

I would highly recommend this bike, if you can afford it, for kids age 2+ between about 35" and 43" tall. Taller than that, I would recommend the larger version. It is best to have a slight incline that flattens out to learn balance fastest. My daughter really had a blast on the small dirt hills and valleys behind our house, and impressed the heck out of bystanders everywhere who hadn't yet heard of balance bikes or teaching kids this young to ride. I think many to most kids can learn to ride a bike pretty easily using the balance method.

My almost 3 year old and 4 year old boys recieved these from "Santa" this Christmas and they love them. We didn't have any problems putting them together, and they seem to be well made, so far. Other reviews said the tires didn't hold up and the grips fell apart quickly. We haven't had any of these problems. Despite having gross motor delays, my boys are doing very well on these bikes. Some parents didn't like that the handle bars can rotate 360 degrees, but once again, it hasn't been a problem for us. These bikes are adjustable, but are probably well suited for smaller kids. My kids are short and shorter, and these bikes are perfect for them.

This is a great little balance bike. The rise is shorter than the Prince Lionheart (it's the shortest I was able to find, actually).

It's well made. Not TOO hard to put together (it even comes with a tool to do it). For us (well, my husband) the tricky part was getting the front wheel and handlebars lined up just right AND having the handlebars low enough for our little son to use it (so the cover was a bit in the way while trying to tighten).

Our son is two, pretty average sized, and does not need it to be at its lowest seat setting (he can handle it up about an inch). He was too small for the Lionheart (that is what was available in a local store to try).

We really like it. Probably the only complaint we have is that our son has just started with it, so he isn't quite fast yet, and he is really upset to ride in the infant seat on the bike instead of biking himself if we need to go somewhere!

The Smart Gear Balance Bike is one of many knockoffs of the LIKEaBIKE. We chose the Smart Gear over the other copies (and the original) because of its low price, not wanting to pay $200-$300 for a wooden push bike. Well, you get what you pay for.

Immediately after purchasing it, I had to replace both tubes. Whoever assembled the wheels at the factory must have used a tool that ended up slicing both tubes. Then, within a few weeks with barely any use, all the plywood started to delaminate--first the wheels, then the main frame, then the seat column. If you look carefully at the plywood, you can see that the inner layers of wood are extremely low-grade.

Once my son grew enough to actually use the balance bike, the axle bolts kept unwinding themselves out of their mating/binding posts. I had to apply nail polish on the threads to stop the unwinding--an old trick I use when wrenching my own stable of 13 bicycles. By the way, the rear axle bolt and its binding post go through the frame's wood at a right angle, but due to the curves of the main frame components, the wood pieces are not parallel; therefore, the rear axle stays constantly bent, putting pressure on the wheel bearings.

Despite the use of sub-par materials and poorly-executed construction, the Smart Gear balance bike is one of my son's toys. He's now quite adept at cruising on the bike, pushing with his feet then bringing them up and steering to stay upright.

I should also mention that unlike many of its competitors, the Smart Gear has a built-in handle. It's very easy to lift and carry the bike--especially handy when we're entering a store or restaurant.

I just got this bike in the mail for my daughter yesterday. I went with this one because it is not too expensive and because it has no advertisement on it. Walmart and Target are selling a similar red wooden balance bike for 54 dollars, but it has this huge Elmo face on the front. I considered the Skutt too, but went with this one for no real particular reason other than I liked the looks of this one over the Skutt. My daughter was EXTREMELY excited. We just got back from 6 months in Hungary where this type of bike is very popular. Our daughter just turned 2, and the bike is a little bit big for her. She needs to grow about an inch more. The materials seem very good. The only unfortunate thing, which we resolved, was that when the bike came, although it was extremely easy to put together, the front and back tires would not inflate. We suspected the inner tubes had holes, and low and behold, when I took them both out (I can change tires on bikes easily), I found the front tube had a half-inch slice in it, and the back tube had a puncture near the value. Luckily, I had my tube patch kit and I fixed them. I don't know how this happened--whether in shipping or if the holes happened when the bike parts were assembled in factory. But problem solved at no expense and with just about an hour of my time. So thus far we are happy with the bike--just a little annoyed at the company. I wonder if they have quality control that could check for this "tube" problem. I was surprised there are no reviews for this bike so I thought I would post one. I guess this bike is new on the market.

"Parts missing and assembly diagrams are hard to follow" 2010-01-03

I bought this bike for my 3 year old son, but it was missing parts in the box (all of the plastic and metal washers and both wheel bearings, so I can't attach either of the wheels). Thank goodness I did not start assembling this in front of my son, he would have been so disappointed!

While I don't think the actual assembly will be hard, it took me longer than expected to determine that parts really were missing because both wheel bolts arrived pre-assembled on the frame. Be aware that the assembly diagram is also VERY small, with all of the pictures in a 4x8" space on a large fold-out multi-lingual sheet. There was no addendum or newer assembly sheet included in the box as other reviewers had mentioned to look for.

I hope that I can get the needed parts soon; I think my son will really enjoy this bike as it is the perfect size for him.

Love this bike! We bought this after my 4 year old broke the handle bar on his Skuut. The Skuut has a weak dowel connection to the main neck and it only took one fall to snap the handle off, with no way repair. This bike has a solid single bar that seems much stronger. This bike also has fatter and more forgiving spoked wheels that make for a nicer ride. The Skuut tires were nearly impossible to inflate because of the solid wheel element. My son loves to take this on the dirt track and in the skate park and it has held up very well.

This bike is great. I just bought one for my niece. I looked online to compare prices for a bunch of different kinds and decided this one was the best. I really wanted to buy a wooden one. The metal ones just looked cheap to me. This one just looked better in my opinion. It has a padded, adjustable seat, nice grips, and has real spoke wheels. Its very sturdy, quality construction. I put it together the day it came in, which took all of about 15 min. Not sure where others are having problems. The directions are not hard to follow at all. I then took it all apart, sanded and painted it something other than the boring wood color, and put it back together. It looks great! I cant wait to give it to her next week. For the money, this bike is great.

prior to purchase, i read a review of this bike somewhere saying not to buy it b/c the instructions and parts left much to be desired....i guess i'm just lucky that i'm a tinkerer and had the spare parts laying around and bought the thing a month prior to my little boy's birthday b/c that's what it took to get it put together...on the instructions, think ikea except without the the little blob guy holding a screw driver chatting with the folks back at customer assistance...i'm particularly fond of the first step of the instructions which shows both tires already on the bike. THEN SHIP IT THAT WAY! i still would buy the bike again because i'm an architect and in the end a little too aesthetics minded for my own good...however, as they say, form should function. i think the makers of the product may have gotten the cart before the horse...we'll see how it holds up to some good old fashioned abuse from my kid. to be continued...

I bought this motorcycle for my nephew for his 3rd birthday. He LOVES it! He's going to be turning 5 soon and he still loves to play with it. The only thing I wish they did differently was make it so you could actually turn the handle bars and steer it right and left. He didn't mind though- its so light that he just lifts it a bit to go in the direction he wants. I have the cutest picture of him giving his big brother a "ride" on it around the house.

We bought the Strider Running Bike for our 3 year old, and he fell in love with it right away. The instructions are right on: How do you teach your toddler to ride, simply build it and hand it to him/her. He went from walking on the bike to gliding a good clip in 2 days. Great exercise for the little ones.

When we got the bike and assembled it (simple, takes 10 minutes) there were two issues. One of the nuts was faulty (wouldn't stay tight) and the rear wheel seemed a bit rough in turning. I took apart the wheel to find one of the bearing sets was installed backwards and corrected it (it's a bit tricky to reassemble correctly). The next day I called Strider (U.S.-based) to ask for a new nut, mentioned the wheel, and they put new nuts and a new wheel in the mail to me the same day. All that without even providing a receipt or anything. Couldn't ask for better customer service than that.

We had tried out a friend's Strider bike & bought this one for our daughter's third birthday.

She loves riding in down the paved hill at the elementary school.

She has done great balancing on the bike and learning how to catch herself when falling which will be important when she gets a regular bike which I am pretty sure she'll be ready for by age 4.

She has not had any real falls and even likes to go 'off road' but our neighbor's son who has a training wheel bike tried it. He got going so fast and not used to balancing he lost control of the handlebars and flipped over to face plant on the ground. He did have a helmet. I'd recommend getting the balance bike even before age two if your child like to ride a trike.

We got this for my son's second birthday. He immediately jumped on it and started cruising around the house. He's had it about a month now and has already started to balance on it. It's the first thing he wants to do in the morning and the last thing he wants to do at night. Oddly enough, one of his friends who is a few months older couldn't seem to figure it out. Just kept standing and trying to walk with it between his legs. Not sure if he just needed some more time on it. The only thing I would change is the wheels. I'm not sure how well the pseudo foam ones are going to hold up.

Our son, just turned 3, loves his bike. It was so easy to put together and no problems adjusting the seat and handlebars. This bike makes outings - to the store, library, beach - so much nicer: we no longer have to walk at the snail's pace of a 3yr old, nor do we have to put him in a stroller when he'd rather be active. It is very light as well which makes it effortless for him to pick it up when he's fallen over.

My only complaint: I ordered it online from a 3rd party and for some reason, the red bike was about $8 more expensive. Red is my son's favorite color, but since we are on a tight budget, he had to have a different color (blue). Why would one color be more expensive?
